Varsity wins big game against Preston.

Posted Thursday, April 26, 2007 by Daniel Crane

In a very much talked about and anticipated game vs. crosstown rival Preston, the Spellman girls came out on top by the score of 18 to 6.
Spellman varsity collected 24 hits and scored 18 runs in a big conference win.
Small ball was the theme of the day. Bunt and run and let the pitching and the defense do their jobs, was the call by Coaches Crane, DeSimone, and Cawley. Of the 24 hits only 4 went for extra bases, 2 triples by Kasey Grisante, a double by Dani Tocci and a long, exhausting homerun by, yet to register, Victoria LaPorte.
Janine Varela pitched the whole game giving up only 7 hits and 1 earned run. Janine is now 6 and 1 on the year.
One very memorable moment was Dani Tocci taking a hard hit at second base, but still having the presence to stay on the base and the toughness to stay in the game. Tocci also went 3 for 5 with a double and 2 RBI's.
This was a total team effort by, not only those on the field, but also by those off the field. Spellman exemplified what it is to truly be a part of a team. Congratulations to all!
