The Spellman varsity girls got off to a slow start today going three up and three down in the first and second innings and while that in itself is bad enough, O.L.V. was not very accommodating.

O.L.V. in the second and the third was not so charitable collecting 6 hits including a double and an error driving in 5 runs putting the Spellman Varsity down 5 to 0. In the bottom of the third Lauren Carew lead off with a hard earned walk then stole second and was then driven in when Cori Siegel double. Siegel was then driven in with a bunt single by Linda McCaffrey, Spellman then hit into a double play on a bad call by the coach stopping the rally. O.L.V. lead 5 to 2.
In the 4th O.L.V. threaten again when with runners on first, second and third the #4 batter hit a hard grounder up the middle were Franny Trosa snagged it tagging the runner going from second to third and then threw to Muffoletto at second for a double play.
In the bottom of the forth Spellman had bases loaded with no outs when Sofia Ponce stole home on a passed ball, then Lauren Carew had a sac fly to drive in the second, and then Kimmy Biolsi also had a sac fly to drive in the third. Score tied 5 to 5. In the bottom of the fifth Victoria (Quiney) Quinones lead off with a double then was driven in when with two outs, Monica Muffoletto drove her in with a double of her own. Spellman leads for the first time 6 to 5.
In the sixth, O.L.V.  threatened again, but was shut down with big put outs by Muffoletto and Trosa. In the seventh, the O.L.V. #5 hitter lead off with a walk, stole second was knocked over to third on a fielders choice and then driven in with a sac fly. Spellman and O.l.V. tied 6 to 6.
In the bottom of the seventh, Sophia Ponce lead off with a single, then stole second and was moved to third when Alex Tunjian hit a squibber to the pitcher. Monica Muffoletto then came up and refused to fail with a 2 and 2 count she drove a hard linner up the middle scoring Ponce from third and giving Spellman the win. Muffoletto, with 2 hits and 2 big RBI's, including the game winner gets offensive player of the game! Franny Trosa with big plays in the field deffensive player of the game.
Great Job Girls.
